Mar Novo is a writer and film and television director, and a member of the LGBTQ+ community. She studied at the New York Film Academy, where she earned a BFA in Filmmaking, and worked at FX Networks on the series “Better Things.” Her debut film, “Las Tres Sisters”, premiered at the Raindance Film Festival in 2023 and was subsequently selected for the official program at FICG and LALIFF in 2024. The film was distributed by Myriad Pictures and had its U.S. theatrical release in February 2025.
In 2024, he directed the short film “La Mosca en la Pared”, which won Best Short Film Made in Jalisco at the 2025 FICG and was selected for LALIFF and SBIFF. His feature film screenplay “70 Especies o Más” was part of the 2025 Cine Qua Non Lab Writing Residency and received a grant from Filma Jalisco’s Local Industry Fund for its development.
In addition, he was part of the writing team for the original Amazon Prime series “Mentiras: El Musical”, an adaptation of the musical by José Manuel López Velarde, directed by showrunner Gabriel Ripstein. His second feature film, “Barcos de Papel”, will begin its festival run in 2027.
