Mexican actor, director, and producer born in Spain in 1961. He is one of the most prominent figures in the Ibero-American film, television, and theater industries, and a seven-time winner of the Ariel Award (the award presented by the Mexican Academy of Film Arts and Sciences).
The film *Only with Your Partner* (Dir. Alfonso Cuarón) is one of the titles that began to bring him wider recognition in the film world, followed by *Cronos* (Dir. Guillermo del Toro), the film that would earn him his first Ariel Award (1993).
That led to projects such as *El Callejón de los Milagros* (Dir. Jorge Fons) and *Profundo Carmesí* (Dir. Arturo Ripstein), the leading role in which earned him his second Ariel Award (1997); “Aro Tolbukhin: En la mente del asesino” (Dir. Isaac Pierre Racine), one of the films nominated to represent Mexico in the race for the Academy Awards (2003); and “La Mala Educación,” directed by Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar.
His extensive filmography includes other memorable titles such as *Arráncame la vida* (Dir. Roberto Sneider), a film for which he would go on to win the Canacine Award for Mexican Actor of the Year (2008); *El Infierno* (Dir. Luis Estrada); and *Colosio: El Asesinato* (Dir. Carlos Bolado), for which he won the Silver Biznaga for Best Actor at the Málaga Film Festival (2013); “Nicotina” (Dir. Hugo Rodríguez), for which he won his fourth Ariel Award (2004); “Chicuarotes” (Dir. Gael García Bernal); “El Diablo Entre las Piernas” (Dir. Arturo Ripstein); ‘Blancanieves’ (Dir. Pablo Berger); ‘Zama’ (Dir. Lucrecia Martel); ‘Bardo, A False Chronicle of a Few Truths’ (Dir. Alejandro González Iñárritu), for which his leading role won the Ariel Awardfor Best Actor (2023), ‘Familia’ (Dir. Rodrigo García), a role that earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the Ariel Awards (2024) and “Rabbit Hole Party” (Dir. Manolo Caro), both of which premiered on Netflix. That same year, he would take on a new leading role in “El Jockey” (Dir. Luis Ortega), a film that had its world premiere at the Venice Biennale.
Giménez Cacho’s talent extends beyond the big screen, and he has achieved equally notable success in both theater and television. He made his directorial debut with the feature film *Juana*, which premiered at the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) and the Málaga Film Festival, earning five nominations for the upcoming Ariel Awards, including Best First Feature. He has staged numerous productions at the El Milagro Theater, which he founded, in Mexico City. On television, he starred in “Club de Cuervos,” the first original Spanish-language series from Netflix; and other productions such as “¿Quién mató a Sara?” (Netflix), “Aquí en la Tierra” (FOX), and “A Strange Enemy” (Prime Video). Produced for Mexican public television, the drama series “Crónica de Castas” (Canal Once).
With a career spanning more than forty years, Giménez Cacho has earned numerous awards both in Mexico and abroad, most notably his seven Ariel Awards, two Canacine Awards, the ACPT Award, the ACE Award in New York, and nominations for the Platino Awards and Goya Awards.
