Mario Muñoz

Mario began his career as a director in advertising under Alejandro González Iñárritu's tutelage at Zeta Films. at Zeta Films. He is the founder of Voces Imaginarias, the production company where he has produced and directed short and feature films, theatrical directed short films, feature films, theater and very successful and award-winning campaigns for some of the most important clients and agencies in Mexico and the United States.

His first short film "Mientras me Muero" (While I'm Dying) (Ariel nomination for Best Short Film from the Mexican the Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas de México and Best Short Film at the Biarritz the Biarritz Film Festival), is a supernatural thriller that initiated him in a rich experimentation with thrillers and genre narratives.

In theater Mario adapted and directed in 2004 "Alerta en Misa" (Mass Appeal) (Mass Appeal) with Aarón Hernán and Luis Roberto Guzmán. In 2012 he translated and directed "Tren Hacia la Noche" (Train to the Night) (The Sunset Limited) by renowned author Cormac McCarthy, starring Álvaro Guerrero and Gustavo Sánchez Parra, and in 2024 he adapted and produced "Trudy and Max in Love" (Trudy y Max se Enamoran). (Trudy and Max in Love) by Zoe Kazan.

In 2008 Mario directed "Bajo la Sal" (Under the Salt)a crime thriller set in the surreal landscape of the salt flats of Baja California. the salt flats of Baja California. The film was produced by Warner Brothers and premiered in competition at the 6th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). competition at the 6th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) and was selected for genre festivals around the world. "Bajo la Sal" (Under the Salt) had three nominations and won the Ariel for Best Actress for Irene Azuela.

In 2017 Mario begins to be represented in the United States by Gloria Content, the content company founded by Diego Luna in 2015. In 2018 Películas Imaginarias and The Lift the successful production house of international production services in Mexico make a strategic alliance to form Voces Imaginarias, a new company focused on offering narrative solutions with directors specialized in storytelling such as Ernesto Contreras, Carlos and Jonás Cuarón, Celso García and Faride Shroeder.

In 2020 Mario's company co-produced Oasis, the short film by director Faride Schroeder, which won the national and global Nespresso Talents award. In 2021 it premieres in selection at the Malaga Film Festival. "Los Hermosos Vencidos"director Guillermo Magariños' first feature film, co-produced by Mario and Voces Imaginarias.

This same year Mario writes and produces "Daughters of Witches" (Daughters of Witches), a short film for Hulu and 20th Digital's for Hulu and 20th Digital's horror anthology Bite Size Halloween. The short is directed by Mario's longtime collaborator Faride Schroeder and stars Yalitza Aparicio (Roma). Aparicio (Roma). Mario (in collaboration with Karen Acosta) wrote the feature adaptation of this story for the feature film adaptation of this story for 20th Digital.

In 2022 Mario ventures back into thriller territory directing the adaptation of "The Black Minutes", the acclaimed novel by Martín Solaresthe acclaimed novel by Martín Solares with whom Mario co-wrote the screenplay.

This project was invited to the screenwriting and actor-director workshops at Sundance Mexico. Co-produced by Mario, Leonardo Zimbrón (Nosotros los nobles) and Mónica Lozano (Amores Perros), the film had its national premiere in competition at the 19° Festival Internacional de European premiere at the 40th Fantastic Film Festival of Brussels and won Best Narrative Feature at the 40th International Film Festival of Morelia. Narrative Feature at the San Diego Latino Film Festival 2022.

The film was nominated for eight Ariel Awards of which it won Best Art Design, Costume Design and Male Co-Acting for Krystian Ferrer. The film was acquired as an original original exclusive for Televisa/Univision's Vix+ streaming platform.

Currently Mario continues to lead his company, generating projects for film, theater, animation and advertising, animation and advertising.
