Director, screenwriter, producer and visual artist, born in Venezuela. Her films have been distributed worldwide and recognized with prestigious international awards. "Pelo Malo" ( Toronto 2013) won the Golden Shell at San Sebastian, Silver Alexander and FIPRESCI award at Thessaloniki, Silver Astor for Best Direction and Screenplay at the Mar del Plata Festival, among 63 other awards, being also Critics pick of the New York Times in its North American premiere and highlighted in LGTBTIQ+ festivals. His first feature film, "A la Media Noche y Media" ( Tokyo 1999) co-directed with Marité Ugás, received important Opera Prima awards. POSTALES DE LENINGRADO (Biarritz 2007), received Fipresci Award and Best Direction in Kerala, India; El Abrazo at the Biarritz Festival, and Jury Award at La Mostra de Sao Paulo, among 25 other international awards.
As a screenwriter and producer, "El chico que Miente" ( M. Ugás)- Berlinale 2011- Coral screenplay award in Havana; and "Contactado" (M.Ugás)- Tribeca 2020, best Director Huelva. Her recent film as director, "Zafari" (San Sebastian 2024) received the French Film Critics Union Award.
He recently premiered the feature film "Aún es de noche en Caracas" ( NETFLIX/ REDRUM, Mexico), during the activities of La Biennale de Venecia. This feature film will also be part of the upcoming Morelia International Film Festival.
She has been invited to the prestigious artist residency Rockefeller Foundation, Bellagio Center (2017). She has participated as a jury member in festivals such as San Sebastian, La Mostra de Sao Paulo and FICCO.
In the visual arts, he works in robotics and electronic art. His piece LLEGASTE CON LA BRISA (2002-2011), has been exhibited in Beijing, Gijón, Lima, Santiago, Caracas, Mexico City and Puebla. His most recent piece, SUPERBLOQUE (2012-2020) has been exhibited in Rio de Janeiro, Toulouse, Caracas, San Juan de Puerto Rico and Lima.
