José Ramón Chávez

He is a graduate of the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica, where he majored in film directing and graduated cum laude with the short film “De fut”.

He has worked as an assistant director on several film projects, including: “Tercera Llamada” by Francisco Franco, “Esto no es berlin” by Hari Sama, “Te prometo Anarquia” by Julio Hernandez Cordon, “The Crimes of the North Sea and Dr. Funes’ Formula” by José Buil, “7:19” and “Gone” among others.

In 2016, he directed his debut film “Help Me Get Through the Night” , which won the Audience Award at the FICG 2018, the Press Award at the GIFF 2018, and received two Ariel Award nominations: Best New Actor and Best Debut Feature. In 2019, he filmed his second feature film “Después de Ti” which was part of the official selection at FICG 2020 and FICGLA that same year.

In early 2022, he will shoot his third feature film “How to Kill Mom” for the Star+ platform, which premiered in theaters in May 2023.

He has directed series such as “There Are Only Two Mothers” and “El Niñero” for Netflix, which was very well received by audiences and remained in the Top 10 for weeks, and “Volver a Caer” for the VIX platform. In 2025, he premiered “Papá Soltero” a series produced by Onza TV for VIX, and will soon premiere the series “La Ley de Alicia” based on the hit series The Good Wife. He is currently in pre-production on a series for the production company Mar Abierto.
