Iria Gómez Concheiro

Born in Mexico City, Iria Gómez Concheiro graduated from the Film Training Center (CCC). She is known for her committed cinema, with a vision that integrates elements of social realism and narratives focused on cultural resistance, youth in marginalized contexts, and the stories of Mexico's most vulnerable sectors. She is also known for her passion and sensitivity in directing actors and camerawork.

With his short film Dime lo que sientes, he won more than twenty national and international awards, including the Ariel for Best Fiction Short Film, awarded by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences, as well as an Honorable Mention at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival.

In 2008, he received a special mention at the legendary Mexico City International Contemporary Film Festival (FICCO) for his feature-length documentary "La Changa." His first fiction film, "Asalto al cine," had its world premiere at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and went on to participate in more than thirty international festivals, including the Horizontes Latinos section of the San Sebastian Film Festival. The film was recognized with the Best First Feature Award at the Guadalajara International Film Festival, among other accolades.

“Before Oblivion,” his third film, is a co-production between Mexico and Colombia, which premiered at the 2018 Morelia Film Festival, then in 2019 participated in FICUNAM and won Best Film at the Guanajuato Film Festival.

His new film, "Here Be Dragons," currently in post-production, marks a pivotal moment in his career, expanding his cinematic language toward a sci-fi/lo-fi dystopia. Starring Alfredo Castro, Camila Calónico (Nobody Will Miss Us), Hernán Mendoza, and José Antonio Toledano, the film is a Mexican-Chilean co-production produced by Machete and Ciudad Cinema. Filming took place in various locations in Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Jalisco, and San Luis Potosí. Chilean band Rubio is responsible for the original music. Its release is scheduled for 2026.

Iria Gómez Concheiro is currently in pre-production for her fifth feature film, “Somos Semilla.”
